Objectives

The scientific domain of the Master of Science’s Degree to be proposed will cover the main area of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and several different specialization areas will be addressed namely, Power (generation & distribution), Control , Applied & Micro-Electronics, DSP & Telecom .
The Master of Science’s Degree corresponds to the first phase of the post-graduate degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering in F.S.T. The second phase of this post-graduate degree will lead the student to obtain the academic degree of Doctor of Philosophy. At this moment, the doctoral study may require to take certain courses to strengthen candidate’s research background or simply not taken any course at all depending solely his/her supervisor subject to the approval of FSTAC.

The Master of Science’s Degree philosophy is to provide, simultaneously, an adequate preparation (with high level of specialization) and a good adaptation capability to a technological situation in constant evolution, for graduate students in Electrical and Computer Engineering from F.S.T. Additionally, the Master Program is also opened to anyone holding a Bachelor degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering (or in an equivalent related field) and wanting not only, to upgrade his/her technological knowledge, but also, to facilitate his/her career development.

Admission Requirements

The Master of Science’s Degree is offered to Bachelor graduates in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Faculty of Science and Technology of University of Macau, and also to anybody holding an Electrical and Computer Engineering (or related field) Bachelor ‘s degree or equivalent academic qualifications from other recognized University.

Duration

The Degree will be offered both on a Full-Time and on a Part-Time basis. The duration of the Full-Time Degree will be 2 years (1st year for attendance of the Courses Component, 2nd year devoted to the Master Thesis). The duration of the Part-Time Degree will be 3 or 4 years (First two years for attendance of the Courses Component, 3rd or/and 4th year dedicated to the Master Thesis). The courses would be offered every year, and any student who fails in certain courses can try the approval in the next semester or year.

Programme Structure

According to the above objectives the Master of Science’s Degree shall be divided into two different components, so called Courses Component and Master Thesis.

Courses Component
Each student is required to complete a total of 24 credits, which can be obtained by the approval in 8 courses (carrying each course a value of 3 credits). Among these 8 courses (listed below), 2 are mandatory to any student – Advanced Mathematics and Introduction to Research. (Corresponding to 6 credits), the other 6 can be chosen by the supervisor and the student.

Master Thesis
The Thesis must report a specialized work in one of the EEE areas developed by the student under the supervision of one Professor (called the supervisor) from F.S.T. The work reported in the Thesis must represent the student’s own contribution, with the appropriate degree of originality, for the solution of one very well defined problem. Finally, the Thesis shall be presented and defended by the candidate in front of a Jury (composed by supervisor and two other Professors in the E.C.E. field from F.S.T. or other recognized University.

Supervisor
Each student must indicate (before taking the course entitled “Introduction to Research”) the name of the Professor, who will supervise his/her Master of Science Degree. The supervisor must approve the student’s programme plan and simultaneously, must supervise the Thesis research work.
