Application of Numerical Methods in Geotechnical Engineering

Course Description

The application of numerical methods in geotechnical engineering is discussed in the course. Basic background of the finite element (FE) and finite difference (FD) technique is briefly introduced with emphasis on geotechnical applications. Popular commercial programs like SLOPE/W, SEEP/W and CRISP are used to demonstrate the possibility of applying numerical techniques in geotechnical problems solving, such as slope stability, seepage and earth retaining structure design.
