SUMMARY:Wilks’ Theorems in Some Random Graph Models
DESCRIPTION:Instructors/Speakers\nProf. Ting YAN\nProfessor\nHuazhong Normal University\nChina \nAbstract\nIn this talk\, we will show Wilks’ theorems in two random graph models—the beta model and the Bradley-Terry model. For fixed dimensional parameter testing problems\, we show that minus twice log-likelihood ratio statistics in the null converge to the Chi-square distribution although the number of nuisance parameters goes to infinity. For increasing dimensional parameter testing problem\, we reveal high dimensional Wilks phenomenon.\n \nBiography\nProf. Ting YAN obtained his Ph.D. degree in University of Science and Technology of China in 2012\, works as a full professor at Huazhong Normal University. His main research interests include Network models\, Random Graphs\, Paired comparisons\, etc. His research has been supported by three projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China\, and he has published more than 30 journal papers\, including several top journals in Statistics\, such as Annals of Statistics\, Biometrika and Journal of the American Statistical Association.

SUMMARY:Teissier problem for nef classes
DESCRIPTION:Instructors/Speakers\nProf. Yashan Zhang\nAssociate Professor\nHunan University\nChina \nAbstract\nTeissier problem aims to characterize the equality case of Khovanskii-Teissier type inequality for (1\,1)-classes on a compact Kaehler manifold. When each of the involved (1\,1)-classes is assumed to be nef and big\, this problem has been solved by the previous works of Boucksom-Favre-Jonsson\, Fu-Xiao and Li. In this talk\, we shall introduce our recent work which settles the case that the involved (1\,1)-classes are just assumed to be nef. By constructing examples\, it is shown that our results are optimal.\n \nBiography\nProf. Yashan Zhang obtained his Ph.D. degree in University of Macau in 2017\, works as an associate professor at Hunan University\, Changsha. His main research interests include Complex Geometry\, Geometric Analysis\, etc.

SUMMARY:Microbial Reductive dehalogenation and its bioremediation application
DESCRIPTION:Instructors/Speakers\nProf. Shanquan WANG\nProfessor\nSchool of Environmental Science and Engineering\nSun Yat-sen University\nChina \nAbstract\nOrganohalide-respiring bacteria (OHRB) mediated microbial reductive dehalogenation represent a promising strategy to remove organohalide pollutants from contaminated environments. Nonetheless\, its application has been largely hindered by the difficulties in obtaining enriched OHRB\, biostimulating materials and niches control. In this seminar\, I will share our research progress in overcoming these difficulties and in applying the newly developed materials and strategies in bioremediation of a chloroethenes-contaminated site.\n \nBiography\n \nDr. Shanquan WANG is a Professor in the School of Environmental Science and Engineering\, Sun Yat-sen University\, China. He received his Bachelor degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Science and Technology Beijing in 2004 and M.Eng Degree from the Beijing Normal University in 2007. He obtained his Doctor Degree from the National University of Singapore in 2012. His research focus on functional anaerobic microorganisms and their conversion of persistent organic pollutants (POPs). His lab integrates microbial cultivation\, metagenomics\, molecular techniques and bioreactor operation to gain fundamental insights into complex biosystems (e.g.\, bioremediation sites\, anaerobic digesters and wastewater treatment bioreactors) at specifically from molecular-\, cellular-\, community- to system-levels. The generated knowledge on these reductive bioprocesses will be further employed to devise novel methods\, techniques and products for the environmental engineering purposes.

SUMMARY:In Situ Microbial Degradation of PBDEs and PCBs in Sediments as Revealed by a multiple-line-of-evidence approach including compound-specific stable isotope analysis (CSIA)
DESCRIPTION:Instructors/Speakers\nProf. Yanhong ZENG\nAssociate Professor\nGuangzhou Institute of Geochemistry\nChinese Academy of Sciences\nChina \nAbstract\nPolychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are two classic groups of persistent organic pollutants in the environment. In situ microbial degradations\, as the main natural remediation way of these pollutants\, have always been one of the important research topics in the field of environmental sciences. However\, given the complexity of the field environment and the limitation of research methods\, there are many difficulties in this study. In this report\, I will introduce our recent progress in in-situ microbial degradation of PCBs and PBDEs in sediments by a multiple-line-of-evidence approach\, including C-CSIA.\n \nBiography\n \nAssociate Professor Yanhong Zeng started her academic career in 2016 in Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry\, Chinese Academy of Sciences\, following a Ph.D. at University of Chinese Academy of Sciences\, Beijing and a postdoctoral at Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry\, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Her research focuses on the source\, fate\, bioaccumulation and effects of organic pollutants in the environment. Using compound-specific isotope analysis to elucidate the sources and biotransformation of persistent organic compounds in the environment is her fundamental research interest. SUMMARY:Progress and future expectation of regional oceanography research in South China Sea
DESCRIPTION:Instructors/Speakers\nProf. Dongxiao WANG\nDean and Professor\nSchool of Marine Sciences\nSun Yat-sen University\nChina \nAbstract\nSouth China Sea (SCS) is one of the crucial oceanic channels connecting Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean. It develops a complicated circulation\, and heat and salt variability of SCS could have significant influences on regional climate. This topic will introduce (1) Interannual variation of circulation in the SCS. The intensity of eastward and northward branch of the summer SCS Western Boundary Current (WBC) along the coast of Vietnam showed negative correlation on interannual scale. This variation is mainly affected by the SCS Summer Monsoon and the flux of Luzon Strait. (2) Subsurface layer warming event in the SCS. Extreme warming events had happened many times in subsurface layer\, SCSWBC plays a decisive role in generating and maintaining those extreme warming events. (3) Long-term trend of subsurface salinity in the SCS. Subsurface salinity in the northern SCS had a significant low-frequency variability during the past few decades: it decreased in the 1960s\, then turned to increase from 1975\, and decreased again after 1993. This decadal variation is determined by the combined effects of seawater intrusion through Luzon Strait and regional deep seawater upwelling process. \nFuture progresses may extend in fields below: (1) Mechanism of multi-scale (especially the mesoscale and submesoscale) interaction of the SCS main current system and its influence on the variation of main current system. SUMMARY:The deformation and thermal effect of mesoscale eddy in South China Sea
DESCRIPTION:Instructors/Speakers\nProf. Chunhua QIU\nAssociate Professor\nSchool of Marine Sciences\nSun Yat-sen University\nChina \nAbstract\nMesoscale eddies with spatial resolution of 50-300 km and temporal scales of several weeks carry more than 80% of global ocean kinetic energy，therefore\, they are very important in ocean modeling. South China Sea is fulfilled with mesoscale eddies. We reviewed the observation skills of mesoscale eddies first. Then the deformation of mesoscale eddy was investigated by using observational network. We defined a vortex-deformation index to forecast the deformation trend of mesoscale eddy\, and found the baroclinic instability is the main mechanism of eddy deformation. By using MITgcm model\, we found the eddy advection induced an extreme surface cooling after Tropical cyclone “Bailu”. \n \nBiography\n \nChunhua Qiu is an Associate Professor in School of Marine Sciences\, Sun Yat-sen University. Her interest is in observing and modeling mesoscale-small scale dynamic processes in South China Sea. Her research is mainly supported by the project of National Natural Science Foundation of China\, The National High Technology Research and Development Program of China\, and so on. She publishes more than 30 papers and 1 book of Marine Meteorology. She is the reviewer of Journal of Geophysical Research-Oceans\, Frontiers in Marine Science\, International Journal of Climate\, and so on.

SUMMARY:Precise Synthesis Based on Tetracoordinate Boron Intermediates
DESCRIPTION:Instructors/Speakers\nProf. Qiuling Song\nCollege of Materials Science and Engineering Huaqiao University \nZoom No.: 97895805410， Password: 072087 \nAbstract\nOrganoboron compounds are a class of multifunctional reagents for the construction of carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bonds in modern synthetic chemistry. The transformation of organoboron compounds is usually carried out through tetracoordinate boron intermediates\, mainly including additions to unsaturated bonds\, rearrangements\, transmetallations and so on. Although great progress has been achieved on tetracoordinate boron species\, there are still shortcomings such as sparse activation modes\, paucity of reaction strategies and difficulties on stereoselective control. In the past several years\, we have focused on the development of unconventional transformations of organoboron compounds based upon the design of tetracoordinate boron intermediates\, including the following three aspects: 1) the construction of C-B bonds; 2) the construction of C-C bonds; 3) the construction of chiral C-H bonds. \nBiography\nProf. Song received a B.S. degree from Zhengzhou University (1998)\, M.S. degree from Peking University (2001) working with Professor Zhenfeng Xi\, and Ph.D. at Princeton University (2006) working with Professor Robert Pascal. After conducting industrial pharmaceutical research for several years\, she joined the faculty in the College of Materials Science at Huaqiao University in 2012. Prof. Song’s research interests range from organoboron and organofluorine chemistry to free-radical chemistry with an emphasis on the synthesis of biologically active organic molecules following green chemistry approaches. She has published over 170 papers with H-index 36. She serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry and Green Synthesis & Catalysis and on the Editorial Board of Chinese Chemical Letters and Chinese Journal of Pharmaceuticals. Among her awards and honors\, Prof. Song was selected as Fellow of The Royal Society Chemistry (2021)\, and awarded Theme Chemistry Journal Award (2021)\, several Asian Core Program Lectureship Awards (2018 and 2019)\, the Quanzhou Natural Science First Prize (2017)\, and received the 6th China Overseas Chinese Contribution Award (2016) and the Fujian Province Hundred Talents Program (2013).

SUMMARY:Ultrafine 1D Multimetallic Nanowires for High-Performance Electrocatalysis
DESCRIPTION:Instructors/Speakers\nProf. Shuifen Xie\nCollege of Materials Science and Engineering\, Huaqiao University \nZoom No.: 97895805410， Password: 072087 \nAbstract\nExploring active and durable Electrocatalysts is pivotal to the development of green energy conversion technologies\, such as fuel cells\, water splitting\, CO2 reduction et al. Ultrafine 1D multimetallic nanowires are a class of intriguing electrocatalyst candidates\, which present unique anisotropic characteristics and superhigh atomic exposures. Precise tuning of their elementa combination and distribution can offer great possibilities to optimize the electrochemical reactivities. In this talk\, we focus on atomic-level constructions of precise surface/interface structures on ultrafine 1D multimetallic nanomaterials for electrocatalytic applications. We find that surface heteroatom pairs\, oxide/metal inverse interfaces\, atomic shell-thickness control as well as amorphous phase are effective strategies for improving the electrocatalytic activities and stabilities of ultrafine1D multimetallicnanowires. \nBiography\nDr. Shuifen Xie is a full professor in College of Materials Science and Engineering\, Huaqiao University\, China. He got his Ph.D. degree in Physical Chemistry from Xiamen University (China) in 2013. SUMMARY:High-performance Perovskite Optoelectronic Devices via Grain Surface Capping
DESCRIPTION:Instructors/Speakers\nProf. Zhanhua Wei\nCollege of Materials Science and Engineering Huagiao University \nAbstract\nMetal halide perovskites are emerging as promising optoelectronic materials with advantages like easy solution-based fabrication\, low material cost\, high defect tolerance\, and high PLQY. Our group has been focusing on perovskite LEDs for years. In 2018\, we prepared a quasi-core-shell structure of CsPbBry@CHaNHgBr\, passivated the non-radiative defects\, improved charge injection balance\, and achieved a milestone EQE of over 20%. In 2021\, we utilized the TFPPO to tune the crystalline dimension of 2D/3D perovskite\, reducing the defect formation and significantly improving the PLQY. As a result\, we got an impressive EQE of over 25%. Moreover\, we will introduce some progress about manipulating crystal growth\, regulating phase composition\, optimizing device structure\, and lead-free perovskite-based LEDs. As for the perovskite solar cells (PSCs)\, we have been focused on preparing ultra-pure FAPblg active layer\, synthesis of functional fullerene and the application in PCs\, perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells. Recently\, we successfully boosted the power conversion efficiency to over 25 % with an operational lifetime of over 1\,500 h. \nBiography\nZhanhua Wei is a full-time professor at the Institute of Luminescent Materials and Information Displays\, College of Materials Science and Engineering\, Huaqiao University\, China.
