SUMMARY:The deformation and thermal effect of mesoscale eddy in South China Sea
DESCRIPTION:Instructors/Speakers\nProf. Chunhua QIU\nAssociate Professor\nSchool of Marine Sciences\nSun Yat-sen University\nChina \nAbstract\nMesoscale eddies with spatial resolution of 50-300 km and temporal scales of several weeks carry more than 80% of global ocean kinetic energy，therefore\, they are very important in ocean modeling. South China Sea is fulfilled with mesoscale eddies. We reviewed the observation skills of mesoscale eddies first. Then the deformation of mesoscale eddy was investigated by using observational network. We defined a vortex-deformation index to forecast the deformation trend of mesoscale eddy\, and found the baroclinic instability is the main mechanism of eddy deformation. By using MITgcm model\, we found the eddy advection induced an extreme surface cooling after Tropical cyclone “Bailu”. \n \nBiography\n \nChunhua Qiu is an Associate Professor in School of Marine Sciences\, Sun Yat-sen University. Her interest is in observing and modeling mesoscale-small scale dynamic processes in South China Sea. Her research is mainly supported by the project of National Natural Science Foundation of China\, The National High Technology Research and Development Program of China\, and so on. She publishes more than 30 papers and 1 book of Marine Meteorology. She is the reviewer of Journal of Geophysical Research-Oceans\, Frontiers in Marine Science\, International Journal of Climate\, and so on.

SUMMARY:Precise Synthesis Based on Tetracoordinate Boron Intermediates
DESCRIPTION:Instructors/Speakers\nProf. Qiuling Song\nCollege of Materials Science and Engineering Huaqiao University \nZoom No.: 97895805410， Password: 072087 \nAbstract\nOrganoboron compounds are a class of multifunctional reagents for the construction of carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bonds in modern synthetic chemistry. The transformation of organoboron compounds is usually carried out through tetracoordinate boron intermediates\, mainly including additions to unsaturated bonds\, rearrangements\, transmetallations and so on. Although great progress has been achieved on tetracoordinate boron species\, there are still shortcomings such as sparse activation modes\, paucity of reaction strategies and difficulties on stereoselective control. In the past several years\, we have focused on the development of unconventional transformations of organoboron compounds based upon the design of tetracoordinate boron intermediates\, including the following three aspects: 1) the construction of C-B bonds; 2) the construction of C-C bonds; 3) the construction of chiral C-H bonds. \nBiography\nProf. Song received a B.S. degree from Zhengzhou University (1998)\, M.S. degree from Peking University (2001) working with Professor Zhenfeng Xi\, and Ph.D. at Princeton University (2006) working with Professor Robert Pascal. After conducting industrial pharmaceutical research for several years\, she joined the faculty in the College of Materials Science at Huaqiao University in 2012. Prof. Song’s research interests range from organoboron and organofluorine chemistry to free-radical chemistry with an emphasis on the synthesis of biologically active organic molecules following green chemistry approaches. She has published over 170 papers with H-index 36. She serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry and Green Synthesis & Catalysis and on the Editorial Board of Chinese Chemical Letters and Chinese Journal of Pharmaceuticals. Among her awards and honors\, Prof. Song was selected as Fellow of The Royal Society Chemistry (2021)\, and awarded Theme Chemistry Journal Award (2021)\, several Asian Core Program Lectureship Awards (2018 and 2019)\, the Quanzhou Natural Science First Prize (2017)\, and received the 6th China Overseas Chinese Contribution Award (2016) and the Fujian Province Hundred Talents Program (2013).

SUMMARY:Ultrafine 1D Multimetallic Nanowires for High-Performance Electrocatalysis
DESCRIPTION:Instructors/Speakers\nProf. Shuifen Xie\nCollege of Materials Science and Engineering\, Huaqiao University \nZoom No.: 97895805410， Password: 072087 \nAbstract\nExploring active and durable Electrocatalysts is pivotal to the development of green energy conversion technologies\, such as fuel cells\, water splitting\, CO2 reduction et al. Ultrafine 1D multimetallic nanowires are a class of intriguing electrocatalyst candidates\, which present unique anisotropic characteristics and superhigh atomic exposures. Precise tuning of their elementa combination and distribution can offer great possibilities to optimize the electrochemical reactivities. In this talk\, we focus on atomic-level constructions of precise surface/interface structures on ultrafine 1D multimetallic nanomaterials for electrocatalytic applications. We find that surface heteroatom pairs\, oxide/metal inverse interfaces\, atomic shell-thickness control as well as amorphous phase are effective strategies for improving the electrocatalytic activities and stabilities of ultrafine1D multimetallicnanowires. \nBiography\nDr. Shuifen Xie is a full professor in College of Materials Science and Engineering\, Huaqiao University\, China. He got his Ph.D. degree in Physical Chemistry from Xiamen University (China) in 2013. SUMMARY:High-performance Perovskite Optoelectronic Devices via Grain Surface Capping
DESCRIPTION:Instructors/Speakers\nProf. Zhanhua Wei\nCollege of Materials Science and Engineering Huagiao University \nAbstract\nMetal halide perovskites are emerging as promising optoelectronic materials with advantages like easy solution-based fabrication\, low material cost\, high defect tolerance\, and high PLQY. Our group has been focusing on perovskite LEDs for years. In 2018\, we prepared a quasi-core-shell structure of CsPbBry@CHaNHgBr\, passivated the non-radiative defects\, improved charge injection balance\, and achieved a milestone EQE of over 20%. In 2021\, we utilized the TFPPO to tune the crystalline dimension of 2D/3D perovskite\, reducing the defect formation and significantly improving the PLQY. As a result\, we got an impressive EQE of over 25%. Moreover\, we will introduce some progress about manipulating crystal growth\, regulating phase composition\, optimizing device structure\, and lead-free perovskite-based LEDs. As for the perovskite solar cells (PSCs)\, we have been focused on preparing ultra-pure FAPblg active layer\, synthesis of functional fullerene and the application in PCs\, perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells. Recently\, we successfully boosted the power conversion efficiency to over 25 % with an operational lifetime of over 1\,500 h. \nBiography\nZhanhua Wei is a full-time professor at the Institute of Luminescent Materials and Information Displays\, College of Materials Science and Engineering\, Huaqiao University\, China. He received his B.S. degree in 2011 from the Department of Chemistry\, Xiamen University\, China\, and his Ph.D. degree in 2015 from Prof. Shihe Yang’s group\, Department of Chemistry\, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology\, China. After postdoc research with Prof. Qihua Xiong at Nanyang Technological University\, he joined Huaqiao University as a principal investigator in May 2016. His current research focuses on perovskite light-emitting diodes\, perovskite solar cells\, and other optoelectronic materials and devices. He has published over 60 peer-reviewed papers in scientific journals like Nature\, J. Am. Chem. Soc. and Adv. Mater.

SUMMARY:Electric Manipulation and Readout of Spintronic Materials
DESCRIPTION:Instructors/Speakers\nProf. Rui WU\n \nProfessor\, \nSpin-X Institute\, South China University of Technology \n  \nAbstract \nElectric manipulation of magnetism is expected to reduce the size and power consumption of spintronic devices. However\, the current material systems in which magnetic properties can be controlled electrically often suffer from drawbacks such as high operation voltage\, small magnetoelectric coefficient\, and obvious leakage current (especially in the 3-1 magnetoelectric composite system). In this talk\, I will introduce our latest results on 3-1 type magnetoelectric nanocomposite films. Through material and structural design\, we have successfully solved the leakage problem of 3-1 magnetoelectric systems\, realized the obvious converse magnetoelectric effect (i.e. electric control of magnetism) and self-biased converse magnetoelectric effects at room temperature\, which is of great significance for the device applications. In addition\, the two-dimensional/van der Waals magnets that emerged in the past five years are expected to overcome Moore’s law limit in spintronic devices\, and this report will also introduce our latest progress in the electric readout of magnetism in the van der Waals antiferromagnet. \n  \nBiography \nDr. Rui Wu is a full professor (PI) at the Spin-X Institute\, South China University of Technology. In 2015\, he obtained his PhD in condensed matter physics from Peking University\, and then has been engaged in postdoctoral research at the University of Cambridge\, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology\, and the University of Mainz. He was an associate research scientist at the Beijing Academy of Quantum Information Sciences in 2021. He is mainly engaged in the research of low-dimensional spintronic materials and devices closely related to next-generation information storage and computing technology. He has published 46 papers in journals including Nature Electron.\, Advanced Functional Materials.\, ACS Appl. Mater. & Interfaces\, Phys. Rev. Appl.\, Phys Rev. B\, etc. \n  \n
