SUMMARY:Seminar - Porous piezoelectric ceramics for sensing and energy harvesting
DESCRIPTION:Abstract \nA novel lead-free flexible piezoelectric energy harvester structure based on porous BCZT pillars and PDMS was achieved. Compared with 0–3 type piezoelectric composites\, where the piezoelectric phase is isolated within the material\, flexible piezoelectric energy harvesters based on a three-dimensional interconnected ceramic skeleton are of particular interest due to their high stress transfer capability and high piezoelectric coefficients. Herein\, a novel lead-free flexible piezoelectric energy harvester structure based on porous BCZT pillars and PDMS was developed. The effect of porosity on piezoelectric coefficients\, ferroelectric properties and energy harvesting performance is investigated in detail. The aligned BCZT-PDMS composite shows great potential in piezoelectric energy harvesting due to excellent piezoelectric properties and stress transfer capability compared with 0–3 type composites. The piezoelectric coefficient and energy harvesting figure of merit are significantly enhanced due to the presence of an aligned pore structure which leads to a high transfer of applied stress into the piezoelectric phase. The highly aligned porosity leads to the creation of a piezoelectric composite exhibits a high output voltage and current. This work therefore expands the applications of porous piezoelectric materials and provides a new strategy for the manufacture of flexible piezoelectric energy harvesters. \nBiography \nYan Zhang is now a professor at Central South University and the Associate Head of State Key Laboratory of Powder Metallurgy\, with research interests including piezoelectric\, pyroelectric and ferroelectric materials\, and their applications in piezo-electrocatalysis\, energy harvesting\, and sensing. She obtained her BSc and PhD degrees in Materials Science from Central South University in 2008 and 2013\, respectively. She worked at Hunan University from 2014 to 2016. Her PhD work concentrated on the fine adjustment of aligned porous structures and lead-free porous piezoelectric composites for biomedical application. She was a Marie-Skłodowska-Curie Fellow in Mechanical Engineering at University of Bath\, working on porous materials\, ferroelectrics\, and their composites in 2016 to 2019. She has been awarded the Humboldt Research Fellowship for experienced researchers since 2021. She is now a professor at Central South University\, with research interests including piezoelectric\, pyroelectric and ferroelectric materials and their applications in electrocatalysis\, energy harvesting\, and sensing.

SUMMARY:Seminar - Smart textile with excellent sensing property and comfortable wearability for epidermal physiological signal monitoring
DESCRIPTION:Abstract \nWearable textile electronics are highly desirable for realizing personalized health management through non-invasive monitoring of the individual’s physiological condition. However\, most reported textile electronics can either periodically target a single physiological signal or miss the explicit details of the signals\, leading to a partial assessment of the health condition. Furthermore\, electronic textiles with excellent sensing property as well as comfortable wearability remain a challenge. Here\, we report a triboelectric all-textile sensor-array (TATSA)\, with high pressure sensitivity and comfort\, for monitoring epidermal pressure related to physiological conditions. It exhibits high pressure sensitivity (7.84 mVPa-1)\, fast response time (20 ms)\, stability (> 100\,000 cycles)\, wide working frequency bandwidth (up to 20 Hz)\, and machine washability (> 40 washes). The fabricated TATSAs were stitched into different parts of the clothes to monitor the arterial pulse waves and respiratory signals simultaneously for an accurate analysis of the physiological condition. We further developed a health monitoring system and demonstrated its use in long-term and non-invasive assessment of cardiovascular disease (CAD) and sleep apnea syndrome (SAS)\, which exhibits a great advancement in wearable textile electronics for quantitative analysis of some chronic diseases. \nBiography \nFrom September 2002 to December 2007\, Prof. YANG Jin studied in the College of Optoelectronic Engineering of Chongqing University for master degree and doctoral degree. SUMMARY:High-performance Perovskite Optoelectronic Devices via Grain Surface Capping
DESCRIPTION:Instructors/Speakers\nProf. Zhanhua Wei\nCollege of Materials Science and Engineering Huagiao University \nAbstract\nMetal halide perovskites are emerging as promising optoelectronic materials with advantages like easy solution-based fabrication\, low material cost\, high defect tolerance\, and high PLQY. Our group has been focusing on perovskite LEDs for years. In 2018\, we prepared a quasi-core-shell structure of CsPbBry@CHaNHgBr\, passivated the non-radiative defects\, improved charge injection balance\, and achieved a milestone EQE of over 20%. In 2021\, we utilized the TFPPO to tune the crystalline dimension of 2D/3D perovskite\, reducing the defect formation and significantly improving the PLQY. As a result\, we got an impressive EQE of over 25%. Moreover\, we will introduce some progress about manipulating crystal growth\, regulating phase composition\, optimizing device structure\, and lead-free perovskite-based LEDs. As for the perovskite solar cells (PSCs)\, we have been focused on preparing ultra-pure FAPblg active layer\, synthesis of functional fullerene and the application in PCs\, perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells. Recently\, we successfully boosted the power conversion efficiency to over 25 % with an operational lifetime of over 1\,500 h. \nBiography\nZhanhua Wei is a full-time professor at the Institute of Luminescent Materials and Information Displays\, College of Materials Science and Engineering\, Huaqiao University\, China. He received his B.S. degree in 2011 from the Department of Chemistry\, Xiamen University\, China\, and his Ph.D. degree in 2015 from Prof. Shihe Yang’s group\, Department of Chemistry\, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology\, China. After postdoc research with Prof. Qihua Xiong at Nanyang Technological University\, he joined Huaqiao University as a principal investigator in May 2016. His current research focuses on perovskite light-emitting diodes\, perovskite solar cells\, and other optoelectronic materials and devices. He has published over 60 peer-reviewed papers in scientific journals like Nature\, J. Am. Chem. Soc. and Adv. Mater.

SUMMARY:Ultrafine 1D Multimetallic Nanowires for High-Performance Electrocatalysis
DESCRIPTION:Instructors/Speakers\nProf. Shuifen Xie\nCollege of Materials Science and Engineering\, Huaqiao University \nZoom No.: 97895805410， Password: 072087 \nAbstract\nExploring active and durable Electrocatalysts is pivotal to the development of green energy conversion technologies\, such as fuel cells\, water splitting\, CO2 reduction et al. Ultrafine 1D multimetallic nanowires are a class of intriguing electrocatalyst candidates\, which present unique anisotropic characteristics and superhigh atomic exposures. Precise tuning of their elementa combination and distribution can offer great possibilities to optimize the electrochemical reactivities. In this talk\, we focus on atomic-level constructions of precise surface/interface structures on ultrafine 1D multimetallic nanomaterials for electrocatalytic applications. We find that surface heteroatom pairs\, oxide/metal inverse interfaces\, atomic shell-thickness control as well as amorphous phase are effective strategies for improving the electrocatalytic activities and stabilities of ultrafine1D multimetallicnanowires. \nBiography\nDr. Shuifen Xie is a full professor in College of Materials Science and Engineering\, Huaqiao University\, China. He got his Ph.D. degree in Physical Chemistry from Xiamen University (China) in 2013. From Sep. 2011 to Aug. 2013\, he worked as a visiting scholar at Georgia Institute of Technology with Prof. Younan Xia. Before he joined Huaqiao University\, he worked as an associate Professor in Department of Physics of Xiamen University for 2 years (2014-2016). His research interest is focused on the atomic-level design and synthesis of inorganic nanomaterials for\nelectrocatalytic applications\, including fuel cells\, water splitting\, CO\, reduction et al. To date\, he has published 59 papers\, including JACS\, Angew. Chem.\, PNAS\, Nano Lett. and other journals.

SUMMARY:Precise Synthesis Based on Tetracoordinate Boron Intermediates
DESCRIPTION:Instructors/Speakers\nProf. Qiuling Song\nCollege of Materials Science and Engineering Huaqiao University \nZoom No.: 97895805410， Password: 072087 \nAbstract\nOrganoboron compounds are a class of multifunctional reagents for the construction of carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bonds in modern synthetic chemistry. The transformation of organoboron compounds is usually carried out through tetracoordinate boron intermediates\, mainly including additions to unsaturated bonds\, rearrangements\, transmetallations and so on. Although great progress has been achieved on tetracoordinate boron species\, there are still shortcomings such as sparse activation modes\, paucity of reaction strategies and difficulties on stereoselective control. In the past several years\, we have focused on the development of unconventional transformations of organoboron compounds based upon the design of tetracoordinate boron intermediates\, including the following three aspects: 1) the construction of C-B bonds; 2) the construction of C-C bonds; 3) the construction of chiral C-H bonds. \nBiography\nProf. Song received a B.S. degree from Zhengzhou University (1998)\, M.S. degree from Peking University (2001) working with Professor Zhenfeng Xi\, and Ph.D. at Princeton University (2006) working with Professor Robert Pascal. After conducting industrial pharmaceutical research for several years\, she joined the faculty in the College of Materials Science at Huaqiao University in 2012. Prof. Song’s research interests range from organoboron and organofluorine chemistry to free-radical chemistry with an emphasis on the synthesis of biologically active organic molecules following green chemistry approaches. She has published over 170 papers with H-index 36. She serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry and Green Synthesis & Catalysis and on the Editorial Board of Chinese Chemical Letters and Chinese Journal of Pharmaceuticals. Among her awards and honors\, Prof. Song was selected as Fellow of The Royal Society Chemistry (2021)\, and awarded Theme Chemistry Journal Award (2021)\, several Asian Core Program Lectureship Awards (2018 and 2019)\, the Quanzhou Natural Science First Prize (2017)\, and received the 6th China Overseas Chinese Contribution Award (2016) and the Fujian Province Hundred Talents Program (2013).
