Kolmogorov Superposition Theorem (KST) and Its Applications

Abstract

KST states that continuous functions of several variables can be represented  by superposition of continuous functions of one variable.  This allows one to transform problems in high dimension to those in one dimension, which are generally simpler, for example, finding  optimal map between one dimensional measures in transportation problem. In my talk, I will introduce some properties of Kolmogorov superposition and its applications in approximation, computing etc.

Biography

Ms. Xing Liu obtained her Master degree from Renming University and is now a PhD candidate at Imperial College London. She is mainly working on infinite dimensional analysis and stochastic analysis.
