Miguel Gomes da Costa Junior (EdD)
I am Miguel Gomes da Costa Junior, currently serving as a Senior Instructor at the Department of Computer and Information Science, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Macau. In addition to my teaching role, I am a Fellow at Stanley Ho East Asia College and act as Academic Staff Advisor for Technology at the Centre for Teaching and Learning Enhancement (CTLE), where I support pedagogical innovation and the integration of technology into teaching and learning.
My academic journey spans multiple countries and disciplines. I hold an EdD in Organisation of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Training from the University of Coimbra (2025), an MSc in Software Engineering from the University of Macau (2016), and an MBA in Marketing and Strategic Management through a joint program between ISCTE (Portugal) and UM (2001). Earlier in my career, I earned degrees in Software Engineering, Systems Analysis, and a Licentiate in Education in Computer Science from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie in Brazil.
Before transitioning to academia, I spent over a decade in the IT industry, specialising in systems analysis, system development, and project management. This experience gave me a strong foundation in technology and problem-solving, which continues to influence my teaching and research.
Since joining the University of Macau in 1995, I have taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervised numerous student projects, and contributed to institutional initiatives such as General Education, MOOCs, Blended Learning, exchange programs, and the development of UM’s institutional repository. My work focuses on bridging technology and education to create meaningful learning experiences.
Outside the classroom, I am passionate about fostering innovation in teaching and learning, mentoring students, and collaborating on projects that enhance educational quality and accessibility.
