Biography

Dr. Zhuang Zheng holds the position of assistant professor in the State Key Labratory of Internet of Things for Smart City at the University of Macau. He earned his Ph.D. in Architecture and Civil Engineering from the City University of Hong Kong and BEng degrees from Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China. Dr. Zheng’s research interests primarily focus on data analytics, machine learning, optimization and control for smart energy-efficient and energy-flexible buildings, grid-building interactions, digital twin and AI technologies for smart energy systems. He has published nine first-author papers in several top journals, such as IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, and Applied Energy. He also served as an invited reviewer for more than 20 international journals and chaired sessions at the International Conference on Applied Energy (ICAE). Furthermore, he represented the City University of Hong Kong at the 2020 Global Young Scientists Summit (five people in total). As a core member, he participated in the Hong Kong Sun Hung Kai Company’s commercial building electricity flexibility enhancement program. Looking forward, Dr. Zheng is determined to create smart, low-carbon urban energy systems by exploring the key technologies and driven mechanisms of city-scale demand-side energy flexibility utilization and fostering the online interactions of energy supply and demand sides for higher renewable energy integration, urban energy resilience, and well-being for citizens.

Positions Available

Our research team is interdisciplinary, linking building environment and energy engineering, electrical engineering and automation, computer science, management science and etc. together. Self-motivated students who are inerested in pursuing PhD degree in electrical and computer engineering are encouraged to apply for the PhD program. 

Minimum Requirements:

1) B.S. in Building Service Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Sicence, or other related fields

2) General admission requirements (English)

Desirable qualifications: 

Demonstrated research experiences related to the following areas: 1) smart low-carbon building technologies; 2) smart grid and demand-side energy management; 3) urban energy system modeling and management; 4) Digital twin and AI for smart city; 5) energy policy and economic; 

Assistantship Package: 

MOP$ 12500-20000 per month for 12 months per year, four years in total. Travel expenses will be covered for research-related activities.
