Now, many research projects are carried on in the Power Electronics Laboratory. One is “A Novel Cophase Electric Traction Supply System Based on High-voltage Large-capacity Unified Power Quality Compensator”, one is “Integrated Generalized PWM Controller for DC-AC Inverter” and the other one is “Application of Capacitive--Coupling Inverter to Integrate Photovoltaic (PV) Generation System”. They are all supported by the Science and Technology Development Fund of the Macao SAR Government and Research Committee of University of Macau. Moreover, the power electronics laboratory (PE Lab) is cooperating with the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI (AMSV) of University of Macau to research on integrated power electronics controller ICs for different applications. We will also continue our research work on power quality compensators. We will focus on improving the performance, efficiency and stability and reducing the cost of the compensators. The final goal is to apply the compensators to buildings in Macao.

The development of power electronics entered the five-year plan of University of Macau. It was also one of the UM Key Research Areas 2008-2012. In the future five years or more, we’ll keep on the research work in the field of power electronics, combining education with research and cultivate more talents. At the same time, we hope more fresh people join our research group.
