Objective

The objective of this laboratory is to provide an environment for students to examine some basic properties of construction material such as concrete and steel reinforcement. Through various experiments listed below, the properties of both fresh and hardened concrete will be examined thoroughly. Students will also get hand-on experience with the way concrete is mixed, transported, placed and compacted.

Facilities

Various apparatuses for testing the workability of fresh concrete:
  • Consistometer
  • Compacting Factor apparatus
  • Mould for Slump Test

Mixers for the mixing of fresh concrete:
--- 90l. Tilting Drum Mixer (left)
--- 40l. Tilting Pan Mixer (right)

 

Compression and Flexure Testing Machine (ELE):
  • Compression Testing Machine (left):   2000 kN capacity capable of testing 200, 150 and 100 mm concrete cubes and cylinders up to 320 x 160 mm dia.
  • Flexural (Beams) Testing Machine (right):   100 kN capacity capable of testing
