Advances of smart grid and energy internet of things has put forward the development of modern power systems. However, these advances also bring along various difficulties such as high uncertainty and complexity which makes decision making in power system more challenging. A comprehensive decision-making framework is required. Research development of process automation and artificial intelligence technologies has greatly promoted hyper-automation of power system decision-making. The seminar is mainly divided into three parts. As a brief introductory section, three important aspects for achieving intelligent decision-making in power systems will be described in this presentation. The topics include i) a comprehensive intelligence, ii) a meticulous decision-making mechanism, and iii) a high computational efficiency methodology. Afterwards, a typical implementation scheme, based on the intelligent industrial high-performance cloud computing, for developing real power system intelligent decision-making system in practice will be discussed. In the final part, the investigations on hyper-automation and hyper-intelligence technologies and the way that they will shape the future of power system decision-making in a prospective point of view will be presented.
Prof. Junbo Zhang is a Professor, Vice dean of Center for Smart Energy Engineering at the School of Electric Power Engineering, South China University of Technology. Prof. Zhang obtained his bachelor and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering in Tsinghua University in 2008 and 2013, respectively, followed by a two-year postdoctoral fellow programme at the same university. He was an assistant professor and associate professor in South China University of Technology during 2015 to 2016 and 2016 to 2018 respectively. Afterwards Prof. Zhang was a visitor at CSDGC, Stanford University during 2018 to 2019. He is dean assistant of School of Electrical Power at South China University of Technology since 2017, and secretary of IEEE PES SBLC Satellite Committee-China since 2020.
Prof. Zhang has been PI and Co-PI for 15 projects, including 973 and 863 key projects, MOST. Prof. Zhang has more than 30 SCI/EI publications on international journal and conferences, including 18 IEEE Transactions. He won best paper awards at the largest annual IEEE PES conference PESGM at 2016 and 2017. He was also awarded as Outstanding Young Scholar in Guangdong Province in 2018. Prof. Zhang’s research interests include hyperautomation and artificial intelligence in power systems, complex system operation and decision making, distributed cloud computing, low carbon and digitalized energy system, etc.
