Instructors/Speakers Prof. Shanquan WANG Professor School of Environmental Science and Engineering Sun Yat-sen University China Abstract Organohalide-respiring bacteria (OHRB) mediated microbial reductive dehalogenation represent a promising strategy to remove organohalide pollutants from contaminated environments. Nonetheless, its application has been largely hindered by the difficulties in obtaining enriched OHRB, biostimulating materials and niches control. In this seminar, I will share our research progress in overcoming these difficulties and in applying the newly developed materials and strategies in bioremediation of a chloroethenes-contaminated site. Biography Dr. Shanquan WANG is a Professor in the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Sun Yat-sen University, China. He received his Bachelor degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Science and Technology Beijing in 2004 and M.Eng ...

Instructors/Speakers Prof. Yanhong ZENG Associate Professor Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry Chinese Academy of Sciences China Abstract Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are two classic groups of persistent organic pollutants in the environment. In situ microbial degradations, as the main natural remediation way of these pollutants, have always been one of the important research topics in the field of environmental sciences. However, given the complexity of the field environment and the limitation of research methods, there are many difficulties in this study. In this report, I will introduce our recent progress in in-situ microbial degradation of PCBs and PBDEs in sediments by a multiple-line-of-evidence approach, including C-CSIA.
