To celebrate the University of Macau’s (UM) significant milestone of its 45th anniversary, UM and the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) held the “45th Anniversary Open Day” today (January 11). With FST scheduled to undergo restructuring in the academic year 2026/2027—splitting into three new faculties—this year’s event marks the final open day under its current organizational structure, making it especially meaningful.
Under the theme “1 to 3 and Beyond: One Legacy, Trinity of Futures,” this year’s open day symbolizes the transition from a single legacy toward three distinct futures, charting an even broader vision for development. FST meticulously organized a series of interactive experiences and engaging activities that attracted nearly 1,000 participants, including students, faculty, alumni, secondary school students, and members of the public. Highlights included admissions information sessions, program consultation talks, cutting-edge science lectures, hands-on science workshops, and numerous fun booth games—offering attendees firsthand exposure to the exciting integration of technology and education. The event was vibrant and filled with dynamic activities.
Additionally, FST specially designed multiple guided laboratory tours, inviting participants to explore the FST building and experience its state-of-the-art research facilities, innovative teaching spaces, and energetic learning environment. Many secondary school students expressed strong interest in UM’s engineering, computer science, and robotics programmes following their visits, voicing aspirations to become future UM students.
As a vital hub for nurturing scientific talent and driving research innovation in Macao, FST has long fostered strong connections among academia, industry, and the community, actively supporting Macao’s diversified development and the advancement of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Although FST’s structure is set to transform, its core values—innovative spirit, educational mission, and social responsibility—will be carried forward and further enhanced by its three successor faculties.
