The research team led by Prof. Ye Wang, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer and Information Science, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Macau, was recently invited by the Macau Social Welfare Bureau to conduct an academic sharing and exchange session themed “Information Security of Gambling and the Prevention of Gambling Disorder.” The event aimed to promote the integration of academic research and public service practice, and to advance the continuous optimization of responsible gambling and problem gambling support services in Macau.
During the sharing session, Prof. Wang introduced the team’s latest research achievements in responsible gambling information design, digital safety interventions, and intelligent counseling platform development. He also presented specific recommendations, including how to enhance the usability and communication effectiveness of responsible gambling information, and how to assist gambling helpline counselors in improving service procedures and intervention strategies. The research was mainly led by PhD students Huang Zhuangtong and Guan Yongqi from the Department of Computer and Information Science.
The research outcomes attracted great attention and positive responses from the participants of the Social Welfare Bureau. Both sides conducted in-depth discussions on further advancing the digitalization and intelligent transformation of Macau’s 24-hour Gambling Counseling Hotline, and planned to cooperate in building an intelligent “24-Hour Gambling Counseling Hotline” service platform serving Macau and the surrounding regions.
The Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Macau has long been committed to serving social well-being and local development through scientific research, actively promoting research practices with Macao’s unique characteristics. Represented by Prof. Wang, many researchers have actively engaged in the social transformation of scientific research results through interdisciplinary collaboration and social practice, applying academic research to public service and social innovation, thus putting into practice the concept of “serving society through research” and promoting technology for good and sustainable social development.
Prof. Wang’s team has long focused on research in usable security and digital safety, and has achieved multiple internationally leading research outcomes. The team has published papers with the University of Macau as the first affiliation at the four most prestigious international conferences in information security — IEEE S&P, NDSS, ACM CCS, and USENIX Security — setting a precedent for Macau and marking an important breakthrough in the university’s research in this field.
