“Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence Summer Camp 2017” consists of three main themes: 1) Image Processing; 2) Deep learning in Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence; 3) Virtual Reality using Deep Learning. To ensure high quality of lectures and experiments, each program is a half-day course with designed activities. Through these activities, the students will experience scientific research and development processes on pattern recognition and image processing.

Theme one: This project first introduces students with several fundamental techniques of image processing and video analysis, including image representation and low-level image manipulations. Then, we introduce a very hot topic, namely, deep learning. With these background knowledge, we provide classes to learn how deep learning benefits the task of image processing.

Theme two: With the help of deep learning, several state-of-the-art computer vision and artificial intelligence systems will be introduced to students. We also provide the comparisons between these deep-learning-based systems with traditional computer vision and artificial intelligence systems. More importantly, we offer both the first-hand experience and the principles on these advanced systems.

Theme three: By introducing students with the principle of virtual reality and several deep-learning-based algorithms, this program helps them by deeply understanding these techniques using specific and lively experiments. We provide various experiences on how to apply deep learning to Virtual Reality with the help of Kinect, HTC VIVE, and powerful computers. The Kinect can be directly integrated into computer operating system by using Kinect through simple gestures and voice commands instead of the commonly used mouse and keyboard. The HTC VIVE provides them an opportunity to explore how computers and sensors can help people to reconstruct lively scenes like that happen in our real life.
