On 12th April 2023, DPC organized a scientific visit to the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) located at Dongguan, Guangdong Province.

CSNS is the first pulsed neutron source facility in developing countries, making China the only four countries in the world to have such facility, together with United Kingdom, United States and Japan.

CSNS locates at Dalang Town of Dongguan City, the heart of the Guangdong-Hong Kong- Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). It includes a powerful linear accelerator, a rapid circling synchrotron, a target station and three Phases neutron instruments. It aims to provide a powerful platform for both fundamental scientific research and high-tech development in many application fields such as material science, life science, resource environment, new energy, etc.
A group of DPC students, led by Professor Haifeng Li and Dr. Matthew Feng, made a visit to CSNS. The team was warmly welcomed by the deputy director, Liang Tianjiao, and the associate director of Office of Research and Planning, Zhen Yang. The Associate director of Division of Neutron Science at CSNS, Junrong Zhang, presented a detailed introduction of the CSNS and the wide applications of neutron scattering/diffraction techniques in our daily lives. Our students actively participated in discussion afterwards. After the presentation, Mr. Boyang Gu and Dr. Hanqiu Jiang led our team for a site visit to different beamlines throughout the facilities. Our students had further discussions and conversations to various beamline scientists and their world-leading multi-disciplinary research projects.

This is a great opportunity for DPC students to understand this large-scale scientific facility of our country and learn hands-on scientific knowledge outside campus.
