To celebrate the 45th Anniversary of the University of Macau and the reconstruction of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), the FST successfully hosted a “Distinguished Talk of Faculty of Science and Technology” on Monday, 18 May. The event featured internationally renowned scholar, IEEE Fellow, and Member of the Turkish Academy of Science, Prof. Hüseyin Arslan, as the keynote speaker. Prof. Arslan delivered an in-depth analysis of the future blueprint of 6G technology under the theme “Are we ready for 6G vision? What is next?”. The lecture was hosted by Prof. Yuan Wu of the University of Macau and attracted students and professors from diverse disciplines, including Computer and Information Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Mathematics, and Physics, creating a vibrant and engaging atmosphere.
In his talk, Prof. Arslan clearly outlined the evolution of wireless communication technologies from conventional cellular networks to 6G. He pointed out that with the gradual popularization of 5G technology, the global academic and industrial communities have shifted their focus to 6G. He emphasized that 6G will not merely be an improvement in speed, but will bring about a fundamental paradigm shift in communications. He provided a detailed analysis of the key technical challenges under the 6G vision, specifically explaining how “Flexible and Cognitive Radio Access Technologies” can address core issues such as extreme reliability, ultra-low latency, and massive connectivity through intelligent spectrum management and dynamic resource allocation, thereby providing technical support for the diverse needs of future communication systems.
The lecture covered not only innovative designs at the Physical (PHY) and Medium Access Control (MAC) layers, but also integrated cutting-edge application scenarios such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), presenting the audience with a cross-disciplinary technological blueprint. Prof. Arslan emphasized that future wireless networks will no longer be just tools for connecting devices, but will evolve into intelligent, flexible ecosystems capable of adapting to diverse needs, opening up infinite possibilities for cross-disciplinary research.
During the interactive session, students from various academic backgrounds were highly enthusiastic, engaging in in-depth discussions with Prof. Arslan on topics such as the practical applications of 6G technology, interdisciplinary research opportunities, and future career development. This talk not only provided students with a valuable platform to dialogue with a top international scholar, but also inspired innovative thinking on future wireless technologies, injecting new vitality into the research atmosphere at UM. Moving forward, FST will continue to promote academic exchange and cultivate innovative talents with a global perspective.
