Prof. Yong XIA from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University gave a talk entitled “Health Monitoring of Super-tall Structures” in Faculty of Science and Technology on the 6th Nov 2019. In the seminar, Prof. XIA shared his latest research results in the Monitoring of Super-tall Structures. He established a complete super-tall structures monitoring system that monitors the deformation and strain of the building in all directions, providing a solid guarantee for the construction and operational safety. Prof. XIA used the 600-m-tall Canton Tower in Guangzhou as an example to demonstrate the structural behaviors during the construction and service stages, particularly the temperature and wind actions of the super-tall structures which reflects the necessity and great potential of super-tall structures monitoring in practical applications. The seminar was hosted by Prof. Wanhuan ZHOU, Head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
