The University of Macau (UM) today (8 July) held a lecture titled ‘From Transparent Ocean to Digital Twin of the Ocean’ , as part of the University Lecture Series in celebration of the 40th anniversary. Wu Lixin, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the Pilot National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology (Qingdao), was the keynote speaker. The talk attracted a large audience. 
 
During the lecture, Wu explained the relationship between the Transparent Ocean and its digital twin as well as cutting-edge research in this field. He discussed the Transparent Ocean research programme developed by his team. The programme uses state-of-the-art technologies in ocean observation and exploration, mobile platforms, as well as artificial intelligence and big data technologies, to predict future changes in the ocean environment over a specific period of time in order to achieve a transparent status, a transparent process, and a transparent change.
 
Wu is a well-known oceanographer. He is currently the director of the Pilot National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology (Qingdao) and the vice president of Ocean University of China. In 2019, he received the Ambassador Award, the highest prize of Earth and Space Science Leadership from the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and became an AGU fellow. He is the first Asian scientist to receive this honour and the first Chinese oceanographer to become an AGU fellow, which is testament to his extraordinary academic and scientific achievements.

澳門大學今(8)日舉行“澳門大學40週年校慶——大學講壇"講座,由中國科學院院士吳立新以“從透明海洋到海洋數字孿生”為題發表演說,分析了“透明海洋”計劃及海洋數字孿生的前沿研究。講座吸引了眾多澳大師生及公眾參與。

澳大校長宋永華致辭時表示,吳立新是著名海洋學家,全國人大常委,中國科學院院士,青島海洋科學與技術試點國家實驗室主任,美國地球物理學會 (AGU) 會士,發展中國家科學院院士,亞洲首位AGU地球與空間科學領導力最高獎得獎者,亞洲唯一的海洋大學副校長。2019年吳立新榮獲AGU地球與空間科學領導力最高獎,並被授予AGU會士,是該會首位獲此殊榮的亞洲科學家,也是首位成為AGU會士的中國海洋學家,足見其學術及科研成就非凡。

講座上,吳立新簡述了他作為國家實驗室主任所推動的“透明海洋”研究計劃。該計劃通過現代海洋觀測與探測技術,再結合移動平台、人工智能和大數據技術,預測未來特定時間內海洋環境變化,實現海洋的狀態透明、過程透明、變化透明。

吳立新剖釋,隨着“透明海洋”計劃的實施,再助力於實時立體觀測、高分辨率與超高分辨率數值模擬以及大數據、人工智能技術的綜合發展,已使得構建海洋數字孿生成為可能。海洋數字孿生,就是在“透明海洋”計劃的基礎上,構建虛擬的海洋系統,將歷史以及實時觀測數據和人類認識完全整合在這個系統中,形成可以實時模擬、分析和推演的能力。通過海洋數字孿生系統,將實現海洋環境的精細化監測、預測,以及海洋精準化開發、使用和治理,全面提升人類認識海洋與經略海洋的能力。

講座吸引了眾多澳大師生及公眾參與。問答交流環節由澳大土木及環境工程系主任及區域海洋研究中心代主任周萬歡主持;與會者與講者交流互動,討論氣氛熱烈。
