General information

  • Format: Written examination (closed-book)
  • Time allowed: 3 hours
  • Total score: 100 marks
  • Passing score: 50 marks

General Rules

  • The exam paper consists of two sections, namely Section 1 – Fundamental Stream and Section 2 – Specialized Streams.
  • Students need to answer FIVE questions on the examination paper.
  • Students are required to answer ONE question in Fundamental Stream and FOUR questions in Specialized Streams.
  • In section 2, students are required to answer AT LEAST ONE question from ANY TWO specialized streams.

Exam retake policy

  • If a student fails the exam for the first time, he or she will be required to retake it according to the designated schedule. 
  • If the student fails the examination a second time, he or she will be discontinued from the PhD programme.
