Objectives

  1. To assist the undergraduate and graduate courses for demonstration;
  2. To provide an environment for the research work of undergraduate and graduate students, especially for final year projects, master or doctoral thesis;
  3. To understand the behaviour of structures subjected to dynamic excitation; and
  4. To monitor and understand the long-term structural behaviour.

Facilities

    1. QUANSER SHAKE TABLE SYSTEM
      QUANSER shake table system integrates a universal power module, data acquisition cards, PC control software and a shake table. It is a compact device for understanding civil engineering curriculum and research on structural dynamics, structural health monitoring and control, earthquake engineering and related fields.

    1. PORTABLE SENSING WITH DATA ACQUISITION SYSTEM
      The sensing with data acquisition system consists with uni-axial and tri-axial accelerometers, seismic recorders and a control centre. The system is applied to conduct long-term continuous structural health monitoring.

    1. AMBIENT CONDITIONS MONITORING SYSTEM (THEMOMETER, BAROMETER, ANEMOMETER, RAIN GUAGE)
      It is well known that operating conditions have significant influences on the structural performance. To understand the relation, an ambient condition monitoring system is established for capturing the important factors, including temperature, humidity, air-pressure, wind properties, precipitation, etc.

    1. MAGNETORHEOLOGICAL (MR) DAMPERS
      MR dampers are used to provide active control on the attached structures.
